Well, after Somalia we did just that. To be technically correct though, it wasn't the 2 Blackhawks downed Oct 3 1993, nor the Blackhawk lost a few months earlier, but the CNN images of dead SSG Bill Cleveland being dragged around the street, which caused the Commander-in-Chief to "call off the war".

We no longer have the same Commander-in-Chief at the helm. Bush and the nation has more invested in this conflict. Over 5000 innocent deaths made it personal. That is what the Taliban fails to realize.
