<...The hard part is logistics. You'd need a lot of support to bring in the necessary fuel, spare parts, and munitions.

This is outside my area of expertise, but I wonder if it is possible to support a small base like this entirely by air? Fuel in particular would be a problem. I have no idea if there is a precedent for large scale fuel supply for a base by air.
