Mr. Simberg seems to be saying here that since the media did not accurately predict the outcome of the Afghan conflict, everything it says is worthless, and the Media is deserving of scorn.
Need I mention that nobody accurately predicted the course of events so far in this conflict - not the brass, not the media, neither you nor I?
In fact, so far as I know, no one has ever been able to peer into the future and make an accurate, detailed prediction about ANYTHING.
But it is the media's job to try. That's what the public wants and that's what we pay them to do.
As I have noted in previous posts, it was not the media who was asleep at the wheel while the 9/11 villians were trying hard to tip their hand.
It seems curious to me that, in some quarters, the media is such a commonly villified target while the towering incompetence of our intelligence and security services on the eve of 9/11 goes relatively unaddressed, by comparison.
To put it into clear, unambiguous English: the media are neither the culprits nor among the culpable parties in the tragedy of the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001.
For pity sakes, Mr. Simberg, get your villians straight!
