Re: Bernard Goldberg-Marvin Kalb debate on PBS

Listened to the interview here, and sorry, but Kalb has no real rebuttals. "Your work is not accurate" is a response about as useful as "Oh Yeah?" I read the book, and it is filled with detailed examples.

The mainstream media got onto the Clinton story after they were dragged there kicking and screaming, and then only because in the world of ratings, a hot scandal overrides all politics and always will. Remember, it was the Drudge Report, an online amateur news service, that actually broke the Lowinski story.

Kalb wrote a book about the media exposing the Clinton sex scandals.

I have not read the book, but in the reviews at Amazon, Kalb expresses a bitter anger at the media for exposing the clay feet of Bill Clinton, who was set up as the Great Hope of the liberals. Kalb is apparently fond of recalling a time when he saw a woman going up for a rendezvous with John F. Kennedy, and he nobly said nothing, seeming to imply that perhaps this would have been the way for the press to handle the Bill Clinton situation*. One can see he has a real chip on his shoulder with the press about the whole Clinton thing.

Compare this anger to the worship that Woodward and Bernstein enjoy to this day for having helped to bring down a Republican president. If Ronald Reagan had been found to have been slipping the sausage to an intern in the Oval Office, his rotting hide would still be hanging from the top of the Capitol dome. I still remember Clarence Thomas getting pilloried by shocked liberals and feminists (who later offered to put on knee pads for Bill for supporting their agendas) for mentioning pubic hair in the presence of one of HIS employees.

This double standard in how Republicans are treated compared to Democrats is another obvious sign of liberal bias. Remember Newt's book deal? Now remember Hillary's?

And this book is hardly the first revelation of the liberal media tilt. Surveys show that about 6 percent of the media identify themselves as conservative, and only about 4 percent as Republican. Only a fool would say that this means nothing.

*As though the worst thing Clinton ever did was wreck Monica's dress.
