It is in the interest of some of our politicians to create an electorate that is as stupid and butt-ignorant as possible so they will vote for them. Have you ever noticed how they always bend over backwards to accommodate the incapable, the illiterate, the uneducated, the unschooled illegal immigrant, and the downright dim? The cover story is, of course, that this is "compassion." The real story is it's a lot easier to convince a dummy to vote for you than a smart person, especially if your political positions wouldn't hold water with a bright 10-year-old.

I'm not naming any political parties here, but it's worth noting that when certain people were fighting to have the ballots counted of people who were not bright enough to follow simple directions in several languages and poke a hole in piece of paper, they were operating under the assumption that those ballots had to be votes for their party.
