I think this rash of suicide bombers can be traced back in part to World War II Japan. Japan used, abused, and flat-out turned on its head the Samauri soldier honor code by creating all kinds of suicide weapons most notably the Kamakazi pilot...

Instead of fighting with honor and dieing with dignity it became claw bite and scratch like a cornered wolf and when you die, do so in a blaze of "glory" taking as many of the enemy with you as you can... Death became preferable to life in pursuit of an otherwise worthless cause. This new form of "honerable" death is in reality nothing short of dishonerable.

Just my opinion of course.
