Re: Suicide can be a very effective tactic
In a book entitled "Divine Wind" a former Japanese kamikaze pilot relates that most Japanese suicide pilots were not volunteers, but rather 'volunteered'. (He was in one of the earlier ones which was a modified fighter and had landing gear, and thus he could come down safely claiming "engine trouble".)
His report is that the only way they could get most of these folks to actually crash was to send them off in planes which had the landing gear fall off after takeoff, and then they were often shepherded into position by guys who would shoot them down if the strayed.
Suicide doesn't seem to be a method of choice for expressing resistance.
