I'm trying to figure out where the living hell you got the idea that "fairness" has anything to do with a war situation.
If some army or bunch of criminals is trying to take me or my family out, my job is to set it up so that the other guy has a slingshot and I have a chain gun. I want it to be unfair. I want the bulletproof vest and combat armor while the other guy is wearing a Ghost Shirt. I want the X-ray laser while the other guy is waving a sword.
I heard this "fairness" crap from some other people when we were kicking the shit out of our enemies in Afghanistan with weapons that were just this side of sorcery. Horse hockey. I don't know what the Taliban/American kill ratio was, but I would be rooting for triple digits. Make the other poor bastard die for HIS country.
Anyone fighting a battle--Israeli, Palestinian, American, Taliban--will have this same attitude unless they are nuts. The Palestinians are severely outgunned--not by choice--but then so were the Israelis when the entire Mideast came down on them like a ton of bricks--several times.
"Fair" is for baseball and black-and-white cowboy movies.
Thank God the Israelis have overwhelming conventional forces. If they were evenly matched with their enemies, and backed against the wall, they might start lobbing nukes.
"You shot him in the back!"
"His back was to me."
- Judge Roy Bean
For the record, had the weapons ship from Iran gotten through, the Palestinians would be doing a lot better. The intercepted cargo ship included: 62 122mm Katyusha rockets (20 kilometer range), 700 120mm mortar shells (6 kilometer range), 686 81 mm mortar shells, a ton and a half of highly potent C-4 explosives; Sagger, RPG and LAW anti-tank weapons, and over 400,000 rounds of ammunition for automatic weapons.
C-4 explosives have no plausible defensive uses, but plenty of terrorist ones. Another exercise of interest would be to take a map of Israel and draw 20 km circles around Gaza and the West Bank, and see what parts of Israel are out of rocket range.
