Sometimes I worry that G*d is just... he may be getting ready to settle up with some folks in Europe and the US for their unjust hatred of Jews...
First off, this account leaves out the massive emigration from Europe which occured as a response to anti-semitism. The initial Jewish population in Palestine was very small and pretty well tolerated.
Second, it ignores how the Balfour Declaration became British policy.
Third, it mistates Britain's responsibilities to the League of Nations as "trustee" (colonial power) for Palestine.
Fourth, it leaves out how the UN set up Israel. The idea did not have much support at first. Harry Truman's tailor made a personal appeal to him, and Truman changed US policy. Stalin thought Israel would be a good thing, because it would casue the US no end of problems in their relations with the Arab nations. Britain just wanted out, as they were loosing men to Jewish terrorists.
Fifth, it leaves out Israeli air superiority in 1948.
Sixth, it leaves out Suez "Crisis" entirely, and that's a pretty amazing omission.
Seventh, it leaves out Israel's first strike in 1967, which destroyed the Arab air forces on the ground.
Eighth, it leaves out US re-supply efforts (ahem) in 1973, and detalied discussion of Kissinger's role.
Ninth, it leaves out the Camp David Accords.
Tenth, it leaves out Sharon's role in the initial de-stablization of Lebanon.
Eleventh, it leaves out the Rabin plan, and the overwhelming acceptance of that offer by the Moslem nations at the Cairo Conference.
