So, apparently there is a surge of antisemitism in Europe (and only in Europe??).
True enough, there have lately been numerous attacks on synagogues, throwing bottles into windows, etc...But these are isolated or improvised actions by hooligans and disorented young boys (many descendants of Arab immigrants).
Every so often, there is a pro-Palestine demonstration degenerating into attacks against properties, breakage of glass followed the next day by a pro-Israel demonstration degenerating into attacks against properties and breakage of glass (just like the day before).
There are TV debates where the PLO representative in Brussels is invited together with the Israeli ambassador in Belgium (they completely disagree with each other, but that's not a surprise).
There are numerous talk shows with jewish intellectuals like Bernard Henri Levy, Alain Finkielkraut who are given plenty of time to warn against antisemitism.
There's that good magazine "Marianne" the editor being the well known Jean-François Kahn (a jew) where pro-palestinian issues are written next to pro-israeli and "en masse".
For instance an article "Truths and lies about a war"and as a subtitle: Information is never neutral. On the Israeli side as well as on the Palestinian side, the essential is to appear as a victim. For this, every blow is allowed, including on the media frontline.
And meanwhile, in the US, some journalists pretend Europeans have become antisemites.
That is of course totally unfair to mix all europeans with hooligans.
European diplomats were flatly denied access to Arafat by Sharon; no, those diplomats do try to come up with something (there is a German initiative) but they are ignored by the Israeli authorities.
BTW, it looks like I'm the only regular on this board who's ever been to Israel.
I've got some anecdotes to tell, relative to the little visit to the Gaza strip I made on june 24 1979; but that's for later on.
