Depending on the source of the information, it is impossible to form a fair opinion. Clearly the situation is bad. But the fact is... it doesn't affect me directly - I am more interested in finding a job right now than anything else, trying not to miss my rent payment next month. Given that, I just can't be interested right now, I don't have all the information, and I am rather preoccupied.
All these centuries of industrial development and life doesn't seem to have gotten easier. There are still homeless people. There are still people that are unemployed. There are still slave-driving managers. There are still union strikes. There are still people who don't work well together.
There has to be a way to provide people with the essentials of life (shelter, food, transportation & communications) freely. All people should be able to live without fear of ever being homeless or going without those essentials. That's the future to aim for. That's a problem to solve. The world cannot work on fear alone.
