Jew, christians, muslims and all the others carry ID cards in France.
The religion is just not mentioned.

I remember, having been in Israel in 1979 for 6 weeks, I was offered a temporary job (just one evening); the guy who hired me (a jewish citizen) asked what was my religion (needed for the CV).

I was surprized.
