Skepticism, and fear.

<Held as “enemy combatant”. “A Justice Department official, who spoke with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said that under U.S. legal rules, al-Mujahir can be held indefinitely as an enemy soldier. He could eventually be tried by a military tribunal if President Bush changed the executive order he issued after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, but the Justice Department official told the AP that there currently are no plans to convene a military tribunal or otherwise press U.S. criminal charges.” This could put the fear of the US Department of Justice into folks. First, the guy is a US citizen. Apparently there are no criminal charges against him. He’s been held for over a month. In a Navy brig. They’ve decided to call him an “enemy combatant”, though there’s no evidence cited he belonged to an enemy army, or was a combatant. What is cited as evidence is something a detainee has said. And, a civilian, Ashcroft, is handling it, even though he’s somehow an “enemy combatant”. I know it’s one of “them”. I know the guy is unpopular. And I have no doubt he’s a bad guy. But this is pushing any envelope. Holding a citizen with no charges for over a month in a military brig. On the word of one known enemy terrorist. This is the stuff we used to read about happening in the USSR, not the US. Arf
