And this IHT article shows something quite diffferent : why is it they go ahead with their suicide?
According the Times: It is difficult for the civilised man or woman to admit that barbarism can take possession of a soul, or a society. But unless we do, we cannot stop its advance.
Well, what exactly is "barbarism"? Looks so much a way to explain the problem away doesn't it? like saying a person is "evil"....Very simple explanation indeed!
What we've got to see is the much longer process leading to a suicide and mass murder. True, just before the act, there is a sense of power, of accomplishment, a sense of being important, resoluted: the guy or the girl has made up his or her mind, has no fear, no efterthought; this also happens to the people who commit suicide without taking anybody else's life. Contrary to months of depression, the person seems in much better shape, just before the commitment. Psychologists know this very well: he has made up his mind.
What is far more important is what happened months or years before: the IHT's story describes a woman who lost her boyfriend, who like so many others around her, has never felt respect and dignity, has seen countless destruction, deaths, has no right to move freely, has perhaps no decent job. These things feed the mind of the would be terrorist. While all those thoughts creep in their minds, they don't act, they don't kill, so we don't see them. It's very much the same for anybody who commits suicide.
