Relax, Mary Anne, and don't sweat the Pledge stuff, from either end of what I consider a non-controversy. In your line of work, you're always going to be on someone's bad side, no matter what you do. I personally don't think that the Pledge was useless for the many years that "under God" was not in it, nor do I think that non-deistic children are irretrievably damaged by having the "under God" phrase included. Lord knows (sorry) that no one seems to mind the vast loads of other horse manure kids are taught in public schools, despite what their parents may be trying to teach them.
Oh heck, on the Fourth, we can all be full-up non-judgmental America boosters for one day, just like on Halloween we can all be pagans for one night. ;)
