We're getting there, but it will take time: Its not going to happen in the next year or two.
More likely would be that we further develop Bio-fuels such as ethanol and soy deisel. These products are already suprisingly cost competitive with gasoline (Granted that grain prices are maintained at artificially low levels by all the farming subsidy programs...But thats another story...)
