If Osama had a grand scheme, which I doubt, GWB has fallen into his trap. OBL would want the US and all Muslim nations to be at odds, would want the US to have no friends in the Middle East except Israel, and would want Israel to continue to build settlements so as to keep compromising the US.

The current US policies are guaranteed to bring another attack (the government acknowledges this), guaranteed to unite the various terrorist organizations, guaranteed to unite all Muslim nations against the US, and guaranteed to keep the US at war for a long, long time.

I would think the LAST thing the US would want is for the al Qaeda's to merge with the governments of the area. Al Qaeda's fanaticism coupled with any of those governments resources could result in more trouble than anyone would want. And, it would be nearly untraceable. I don't think US policy should be such as to ensure that marriage.

There could be a policy which protected US citizens.

But it wouldn't appeal to the adolescent part of us which sees Rambo as a reflection of life.
