Robert Scheer probably couldn't find Iraq on a map. This, and countless press articles like it, are only about one thing: making sure that the Bush Administration hits a political brick wall, preferably before the next election.
Notice the use of another newspaper as a source for that "chemical weapons in Iraq" story--a newspaper that relied on "unnamed sources" for that story. Like the "nerve gas in Viet Nam" fiasco, this rumor has legs because the Left so badly wants to believe it.
And let's try and remember which President actually does have a record of instituting military action overseas to take our minds off of domestic matters.
The idea of institutionalized evil does not sit well on the Left, and given its decades-long history of kissing the asses of totalitarian communists around the world, I can see why.
