You can't have it both ways

<Honorable people, EVEN IF THEY KNOW THEY WILL LOSE, make it expensive for the aggressor. They don't, to quote someone, "kiss ass and try to make friends".

Honorable people? I thought we were talking about Saddam? So now he is an honorable man. I don't think you mean that.

"The most honorable people of recent times of whom I've read are the American POWs of the Vietnam war held in Hanoi."

Sounds hollow coming from you. Does this group include the POW's that would spit on you if they read your posts on this site?

"They knew they could be tortured to do or say anything (as we all could), and yet the code they developed was to make 'em work for it, not "kiss ass and try to make friends"."

My condition for appeasment in the face of irresistible force is retention of sovereignty. Not the situation of a POW I think.

"There was a Chamberlain thread here earlier. On a national level, Chamberlain's line, as I recall, was to "kiss ass and try to make friends".

You make it too easy Corky. Chamberlain was not faced with a undefeatable foe. He was faced with a violent psychopath very similar to Saddam and the cave in certainly didn't protect the sovereignty of anyone.

Either way, you seem to think that it is fine to appease Iraq and the "honorable" Saddam.

Bye the Bye, I said the Afghans were numb to violence. But you knew that.
