Pre 9-11 I wandered into my local NG Armory and asked to look over one of the HumVees in the parking lot. A friend was considering purchasing the commercial version, and I hadn't even seen the inside of one.
The OD found an underling who wandered out with me, and I spent 10 minutes or so looking the thing over. I'm sure it beats walking for long distances, doesn't look like much on the comfort level. On the other hand, it's capabilities gave it a warm, friendly aura, and I'd have been damned glad to have one around.
Since then, the Sgt. Burfel P. Osprey NG Armory is surround by fencing, barbed wire, warning signs, and whatever. Typical bureaucratic nonsense.
As if a terrorist were going to take on the Sgt. Burfel P. Osprey NG Armory. As if a chain link fence with barbed wire at the top (not razor wire for some reason) were going to stop a determined attacker.
As if we couldn't give them the St. Burfel P. Osprey NG Armory, and have them mow the acres of lawn, wash all those windows, and be money ahead.
There's no perspective in this government, and wisdom is perspective. There's no perspective in this world. What's a terrorist rallying cry? "Today Sgt. Burfel P. Osprey, tomorrow the Safeway on the corner!!"
