GWB needs a war.
See, if the goal were to uncover and eliminate WMD, inspections would work. A country the size of Iraq, economic and developed size, would find it hard to maintain a large program with other folks running around, looking here, there, watching for fund transfers, electrical power usage, checking freight shipments.
But golly. Bush and his party want to be seen as successful warriors before the November elections. He needs to force a vote in Congress, as politicians glory in jingoism, before the election, too. Nothing sells like jingoism. Look at the Salem Witch trials, or lynch mobs. Reduce your population to their basest level, then stampede 'em.
You can hear the drumbeat now. All of these arrests of key personnel. Like the others. Remember Ashcroft on national TV from MOSCOW, and that joke of an arrest so important he interrupted his trip and even embarrassed GWB? He was so proud?
Next, in order to get the oil GWB needs US troops on the ground there to cover the Halliburton folks. Can't do that with inspections, have to sabotage the inspections.
If one wants security, inspections are the deal.
If one wants oil, need war. Gotta have war. Inspections are only a way to delay gettin' oil, let's get to war, fast. Remember the Alamo, Remember Pearl Harbor, Remember my campaign contributors!!
Damn the inspections, full war ahead!!! (Dear France and Russia, if you don't veto my war, I'll see to it you make a lot more from me than you will from Saddam. Just don't veto. Abstain. Just don't do it!
Cause I got the vig on my back.
