What if there is evidence that can't be released...
For example, are we covering up that Sadam used some chemical and/or biological weapons in the first gulf war?
What if we had evidence that he was behind the anthrax attacks or the West Nile "outbreak"...
Could we release that evidence to the public?
keep in mind that it has always been public policy that if an enemy were to use WMD against us, that we would go nuclear against them.
In summary: Maybe the reason there's no smoking gun is because producing the smoking gun would lead to nuclear war.
Pure speculation, but maybe that's why a very liberal Tony Blair and a very conservative George Bush are in lock-step.
