<There are lots of ways to get AIDS and your children are at risk. Yes, anal sex (both homo and hetero) is a primary vector. But you can also get it from your dentist.
Horseshit. The only way my kids will get AIDS is if they start screwing around. If they behave themselves, they won't get it. It's that simple, and that's what the AIDS lobby doesn't want to hear, which is why the myths of massive heterosexual AIDS epidemics in America were spread.
Incidentally, a grand total of six people have had AIDS infections traced to a single dentist, and they still don't know how he did it. It may even have been deliberate.
>>>Half a million Americans died on the altar of leftist politics.
That's crap. I agree that engaging in high-risk behavior entails high-risk. But that's where we part company. You need to keep out of other people's bedrooms, Mr. Libertarian.
Why is this crap? Where would YOU place responsibility? My sympathies go out to those first victims who had no idea what hit them, although the rampant venereal diseases that were common in the promiscuous gay community should have been a red flag. But it was a very short time until it had been established how AIDS was spread, and what could be done to stop the spreading. And they didn't do it.
How could you draw any other conclusion in the AIDS outbreak except that gay "culture politics" prevented any reasonable methods, primarily voluntary changes of behavior, of containing the outbreak? Forget laws, why didn't gays themselves boycott the bathhouses? As for staying out of people's bedrooms, I'm not even sure what you mean by that. Libertarianism means not having the government force people to stop particular behaviors when they harm no one else but themselves. Even assuming AIDS doesn't fall into that category--a big if--it doesn't follow that all behaviors are therefore immune to judgment. I've got a right to express my opinion on someone else's actions as much as anyone else does.
I'll keep out of other people's bedrooms when they stay out of my wallet. Total funding this year to fight AIDS approaches 13 billion dollars, and the gay activists are still bitching that it isn't enough.
Why is it ok with you if people choose to smoke, but not ok if they have risky sex? Does it have something to do with campaign donations?
It's not okay with me if people choose to smoke, if you mean do I approve of it. I consider smoking to be as stupid as promiscuous sex. But I'm not going to pass equally stupid laws against it, any more than I would approve of laws against extra-marital sex.
Back at you: Why is it okay with liberals to pass numberless laws against smoking anywhere around other people, but not against actions around other people that spread a known lethal disease? Maybe we should stick punitive taxes on condom packages like they do on cigarette packages. Or at least a warning label on the 30 percent failure rates.
