Tom, give it up, man. If you had even a shred of objectivity, you'd notice that the players on the field kicking around the Lottball are Republicans, and that Democrats are content to cheer the carnage from the sidelines.
Take a deep breath and look around the Zone. Notice that many members of the Rightist Tabernacle Choir aren't singing from your hymnal?
Have you read any of Ed's posts? I never thought I'd say this, but Ed's been the voice of calm (if anguished) reason on this issue.
You might take a memory pill, too. Remember the 8-year witch hunt between 1992 and 2000? Remember the Republicans spending more than $50 million of the taxpayer's money to fund Ken Starr and an army of investigators to dig up any dirt they could on Clinton? Remember how they were augmented by private investigators hired by Richard Scaife? Remember how they interviewed tens of thousands of people, to find a handful willing to say something bad about Clinton? Remember how little the came up with in comparison to the effort expended? Republicans got burnt on that deal--a $50 million contract on Clinton should have bought a hanging, at least.
And now you're outraged that private individuals--not government "special" prosecutors--will research the record of whoever takes the baton from Lott?
Can you say "karma"? Democrats aren't out for Lott's blood, because they're too busy laughing their asses off. Understandably. It's only human to enjoy the spectacle of chickens coming home to roost.
