Re: The game

Okay, if that's the way the liberals want to play it, fine.

Well, hey, remember, I don't speak for "The Liberals", whatever that means. I can only talk about what I observe going on. From a position near the middle, slightly tilted to the left, I think both extremes are complete whackjobs.

The Democrats were just sitting around reading the paper over coffee when suddenly the Republicans decided to take Lott out of the picture.

No, Tom, the Democrats were just sitting around reading the paper over coffee when suddenly Trent Lott jammed his foot in his mouth up to the groinal region. Events proceeded from there with a dreary inevitability. It couldn't have turned out any other way.

Just because Clinton skated--something for which Lott was not entirely blameless--doesn't make the investigation a failure.

Poor ole Trent...Republicans can't forgive him for failing to nail Clinton while an Impeachment Manager, Democrats can't forgive him for trying. Maybe in retrospect Lott's days were numbered back in '98.

Whether the investigation was a failure or not depends on the Republicans' objectives when the started it and bankrolled it with taxpayer money. Do you think they'd have started down that road if they didn't expect a bigtime payoff? Impeachment + conviction at a minimum; remembering the ugly rhetoric from the time, public flogging followed by hanging was what the Republicans really wanted.

Karma, karma, karma...complaining about it won't change it.

It's over now, and we should all be grateful, because we have bigger fish to fry. Did you read the article in today's Murky-News about the government's proposal to enlist ISPs to monitor Internet communications? TIA's eviller twin is far more important than the missteps of a party hack from Mississippi.
