Without Sam Walton there would BE no Wal-Mart shoppers. It is the class of the entrepreneur and those who CREATE businesses that is targeted for destruction by the Left, and I'm sorry to say, a large number of the rich fall into this category.
If jobs were all there was to an economy, we could hire people to dig up and fill in holes. There has to be a need for the job being done, something that escapes people who track an economy by the number of people with a job.
If "consumerism" was all there was to an economy, Third World nations, comprised almost totally of consumers, would be wealthy.
The key is to forget the concepts "consumer" and "producer."
Everyone is a "trader," and in a free society, both "consumes" and "produces."
The person labeled a "consumer" had better also be producing some product or service, no matter how small, or he is just a parasite or a charity case.
This is kind of beside the point. Where this all got started is the Democratic lie that if you give tax cuts only to the lower classes, it will somehow do a better job of stimulating the economy. First of all, those in the bottom 50 percent of income pay about 5 percent of the income taxes, so a cut there isn't exactly going to pump a lot of cash into the economy. If you give them a subsidy of some kind, that subsidy has to be tapped from elsewhere in the economic system.
It will, however, impress the largest number of voters without noticably affecting the torrent of cash coming into the treasury, which is the best of all worlds for the Democratic Party.
