Didn't Nato countries behave the way they needed during the Cold War era?
Didn't we pay for US planes, F16, arms, etc, with our taxes?
Didn't we take part to a great number of exercizes together, in the FRG? (I was a soldier in 1982 in Germany or the FRG).
Now, after the Cold War:
America "mired in history" where "security and the promotion of a liberal order still depend on the possession and use of military might.".
It's up to you to believe that military might is the sole answer to terrorism.
After all, terrorists are not against soldiers, they're against civilians. They attack within a country, they don't want to take over, just kill. How to stop them? Well, put cameras everywhere, infiltrate their groups, listen and read carefully reports from abroad, arrest them when it can produce the best results, etc...But why send so many soldiers to a country that is no threat to the US?
Because it will become so? But there are so many other ones that could become a threat!
Well, Europe had wars and colonies. It had enough of all the problems involved with them. Now, it wants to build a future.
