Re: Flippancy aside - what is the pro-war motivation?

We have to question how much of Saddam is our baby and doesn't the Saddam situation mimic the Noriega situation just a bit?

A lengthy article by Murray Waas and Craig Unger in the New Yorker in 1992 described the senior Bush passing on advice to Saddam to increase bombing activites against Iran. The senior Bush has never been questioned about this, though it is true that Saddam did intensify his air campaign after Poppy's tea and sympathy trip to the Saudi's.

Shrub Bush asserts that Saddam’s penchant for military aggression justifies a new war. If Bush’s father actually was counseling Saddam to be more aggressive, that’s a fact that the American people deserve to know, don't you think?

The line of reasoning most often expressed was that by urging Iraq to expand its air strikes would force the Iranians to be more desperate for U.S.-made HAWK anti-aircraft missile parts. This outcome would give Washington more leverage dealing with the Iranians.

Iran’s need to protect their cities from Iraqi air attacks became the signal to the Reagan administration’s arms-for-hostage scheme, which became known as the Iran-contra affair. [See The New Yorker, Nov. 2, 1992.]

How many of the infamous WMD have "made in the USA" stamped on them?
