I assumed the measurements were the diagonal screen sizes. They turn out to be the real length of the unit. The 10.1s width of 6.9" does put it out of pocket size, a crucial consideration. The 7s narrow measurement is 4.8", far more manageable. And the $150 price difference is significant.
I've never gotten into the pedometer thing. Over rough terrain, or even in normal walking, steps never seem to be the same. I vastly prefer GPS information.
That picture with the track is completely intriguing. Charming, even.
Now, how does that thing work when you are walking around. Does it go from unsecured WiFi network to unsecured WiFi network, is it connected through a cell phone network, does it simply track through a GPS signal and have it's on onboard maps?
As an aside, way back when GPSs were new and selling for around $1,000 I had a patient who ran a company making the chips. They had chips which utilized up to 12 satellites and cheaper ones which used 6, without the accuracy of the more expensive.
The chips were essentially the same, he said, but the 6 satellite version was simply a detuned version of the 12. They cost almost the same amount to make, the added step to detune the 6s meant a bit more work. They sold for $8 for the 12s, $5 for the 6s. For some reason that has always fascinated me.
Thanks for the information. 'Preciate it, as they say in Florida.
