I took into account that the location behind my online persona is already publicly known down to the city level. That seems to be true of a lot of us, or, as in your case, to within a region. I think I located you several years ago, when Google maps first got satellite overlays.

I think that setting wifi to "hidden" just turns on a bit that everybody else is expected to respect out of courtesy. RF is RF, and Google doesn't need the name to log it. In any case, whether the network broadcasts its ID, and regardless of whether the data is encrypted, every packet sent out by your wifi router contains the hardware's globally-unique serial number called the Media Access Control address. I assume Google indexes found wifi systems by MAC address, which means that yours is probably helping passing travellers despite your wishes.

Damn those socialist-capitalists at Google, willing to help everybody, if there's a buck in it.
