"have yet to hear one person come up with an alternative to either military force, or leaving Saddam in control of Iraq in perpetuity"
We have been through this Tom... You can't use the lack of competing affirmative courses of action as justification for ANY course of action.
And, obviously, this nation did NOT invest in investigating other courses of action. Bush I tried so hard to forget Saddam that he betrayed the Shia and the Kurds in 91. Clinton was more concerned with Israel and Europe and didn'r try for a solution. The UN was too busy getting fat off the oil-for-food administrative mechanisms to look for an alternative. The entire region wanted a deterred Saddam alone in his box with only a trickle of oil bleeding out so they could get a larger slice of the Opec pie and have Saddam around to point to as the REAL bad-guy in the region so we would continue to prop them up. They didn't look for a solution!
Meanwhile a dozen countries harbor terrorists- ACTUALLY instead of in fiction. About 15 countries have or are seeking WMD, and most of them hate america... (rmember the FAS source on this issue?).
So, in the end, Tom- WHO ever looked for a solution? Where was the effort to avoid war? Where was the consideration of alternative courses?
Know what? I give up. This is pointless.
