Enough of arguing about whether it was right or wrong for us to liberate Iraq, or if a US solder killing an Iraqi is any better or worse than Saddam killing an Iraqi, or if the Iraqis are better off now. You all know my stance and I know most of yours.
The fact is, Iraq is in the US hands now. What do we do to restore law and order and get them on the path to building a great country?
I have seen two types of Iraqis when it comes to the US. Both types are happy we came and freed them from Saddam. One type wants us to leave now. The other type wants us to stay, for they fear Saddam coming back and killing them, like he did when we buggered out in 91.
First, we need to get an Iraqi in charge over there. One that will work with the US, and his people. They will listen to of their own before they listen to us. With the Iraqis help, we need to set up law and order by involving as many of locals as possible, and with the least amount of force as possible.
Our goal should be to get out of there ASAP and let the Iraqis govern themselves. How long it will take to wean them off US support remains to be seen, but we know Iraq is a resourceful country with educated people- unlike Afghanistan, which has few resources and a large uneducated population. I don’t think that rebuilding Iraq and setting them loose will take very long. We’ll still be working on Afghanistan by the time this happens.
Once Iraq is independent, I would like to see them share some of their wealth with their poor neighbor Afghanistan.
What now?
