Re: Something that occurred to me last night...

Could be some truth in it. Depends on how Saddam got the WMD that he did use (can't fake that result). If he imported the WMD he did use, then it's more plausible that he never got to the point of making them and producing them. In China tens of millions starved because everyone was lying about how much food was produced.
It's more than possible that scientist lied about what they developed and that any production was also lied about. Also it's possible that there was even resistance- so that in addition of getting well rewarded (and not been punished) they could do the "right thing". [The right thing as far international law and as far as saving citizens in Iraq- plus there were many people who were poor and needed money for food, that these scientists could have been supporting.] It's been reported that there was resistance in developing nuclear weapons in Iraqi nuke program (which wouldn't have the problem of being used against Iraqi people).
It's also possible that the people involved with faking results, had a good incentive to get out of Iraq- before their work was actually tested in warfare. Also what if the UN inspectors actually test their chemical material and provided Saddam with an accurate assessment of them? For instance said the people made Mustard gas and claimed it was VX, then UN inspectors tested it and said it was only low grade mustard gas?
These guys could have lied to Saddam and got rewarded, then lied and hid things from the inspectors and got further rewarded.

So in sense you could call this a "clash of culture", we wanted to verify (determine the truth) and Iraqis wanted to lie (had to or die). As I said before this cease fire agreement regarding WMD was Saddam's tarbaby- he simply couldn't escape from it. Rather than being belligent, Saddam may have been resigned to his fate- praise Allah:)

But whatever the case, we must continue looking for any WMD- it's possible some Iraqi scientist actually were smart enough and some were productive enough to actually make WMD- or they simply bought them from somewhere.
Another different prospective, is that instead of Bin Laden getting WMD from these various countries like Iraq, he could have been gathering this stuff up through black markets and selling them to these countries. And as a WMD dealer Bin Laden could also have wanted to use some of the stash for "personal use".
