' "Quagmire:" Yup...Americans are still dying and being attacked. This will likely continue for sometime. What about that fact is inaccurate?'
Are the police officers in the cities of America in a Quagmire- they are "still dying and being attacked". Some police officers die in auto accidents, some are murdered by petty criminials, some might be murderered by more organized crime (e.g. Mob, drug dealers). If you want to compare it you should take equal numbers of police officers to number of US soldiers in Iraq.
Now we want our soldiers out of there as soon as possible, but we need them to maintain stability, until Iraqis can replace them with a police force and form a government. It takes time to do this. Don you work in govt, you should have some idea of how long it takes to reform an institute, nevermind build one from basically nothing.
There is no reason to call Iraqi a quagmire. I bet that by the end of this year, Iraqis standard of living will be higher than year before and will continue to rise dramatically. Face reality; Iraq has been liberated and generally are happier- not a recipe for a Quagmire. It's like calling Japan a quagmire (you know the second strongest economic power on the planet- it's that island about the size of England, and it still has US forces on it and *could say* "Americans are still dying and being attacked".
