I don't think you get it

It has nothing to do with "wanting to see the Iraqi effort fail." It has everything to do with the fact that we have an inept President who deliberately oversold the case for a pre-emptive war. We are now paying a terrific price for that terrible judgement.

What we need to do is replace the current administration with one competent enough to turn a lemon into lemonade. We need a president capable of restoring our credibility among our allies. We need an administration that makes better choices than the current one has.

At present I have virtually no confidence that Mr. Bush has the capacity to enable the Iraqi effort to succeed. Because of him, we are stuck there for better or for worse. Before the year is out we will likely have spent over a $100 billion dollars "liberating" the people of Iraq. There is no turning the clock back to avoid this. But it would be better if we had someone in the White House who how to move forward better than the current occupant has.

Tom, what you don't like is hearing the bad news. You want it to go away. Well, I have news for you my friend, its not going to go away anytime soon. This is not wishful thinking - its reality - and I wish it were not. Accusing Mr. Bush's critics of wishing for the worst because they are appropriately pointing out how he's screwed things up is dangerous thinking. This nation depends upon the fact that we can point out a president's failures. You will excuse me while I continue to exercise my constitutional rights.

We need a new administration in the White House. The NeoCons have thoroughly screwed things up. An unrelenting guerilla war in the Middle East. Record federal budget deficits. A faltering and anemic economy. This is their legacy. You can have it.

This didn't happen in Yugoslavia. There the Clinton administration effectively ousted a vile despot. He made an effective case to the world as to why it was necessary. And since the hostilities ended conditions have stabilized. We are not losing American lives there. And there is a true international effort underway to rebuild the country. That's because Mr. Clinton knew what he was doing. Mr. Bush doesn't.
