I have to admit I do have alot of personal files, and I download tonnes of shareware.
Hard drive allocation:
Total space available = 10 gigs
----------------------------
Personal files = 3.09 gigs
Installed Software = 4.78 gigs
Windows 98 FE = 0.755 gigs
----------------------------
Free space = 1.37 gigs
I'm a power-user of numerical data which comprises most of my personal collection, so most people probably wouldn't have as many personal files, unless they collect mp3 or movie files, which I don't. I wouldn't be scared off by a 10-gig hard drive limit, the fact is until recently the only thing I've found that really takes huge bites out of hard drive space are uncompressed AVI files (audio-video interweave). I imagine most videos do the same.
The only thing that upset me about my motherboard not supporting larger hard drives is that the computer dealer that I bought the computer from no longer stocks 10 gig hard drives. I've had to replace the hard drive twice, and the last time I had to go to a different dealer to find the older, smaller hard drives, and they were more expensive than the newer, larger hard drives.
But that has nothing to do with upgrading the operating system. As you can see, if it weren't for all my personal files nearly half of my hard drive would still be empty!
