Well Todd...

...at least you're not falling for Don's fiddle playing, anti-Bush soliloquy.

However, when the smoke clears from the partyline BS and one really starts to take a look at the global picture and the US best interests, there is no comparison possible between Clinton and Bush.

Bush has done exceptionally well for a wartime President. By the time the Presidency was being handed over, the Presidency was a joke - the office had almost singlehandedly been stripped of all the respect due it. The White House was the "butt" of pornographic jokes and 1st graders were molesting each other in the name of the President.

Not a pretty picture.

It may be a subtle thing - but the entire demeanor of Washington changed under Bush. The President brought a certain respect back to the office - and this was no small task for an ex-party boy from Texas.

Clinton was despised for himself, his personal actions - and those of his wife. There was a personal loathing of the man that defied typical political dislike. One might have disliked Carter for his policies and ignorance of the world, laughed at his dumb Brother Billy taking money from Libya, felt sorry for Amy - but one knew he was trying his best and one could never loathe Carter or his family. It's those President's with that false-face that are detested. Truman, Lyndon Johnson, Clinton and for the left, Nixon. (However anyone who's up on their Nixon knows he really did try and lived the Presidency and what he thought was best - and was not just a lipservice President.) These President's earn a loathing far exceeding Bush.

Bush is hated for what he represents - the rich, gentry, conservatives, religious right, big business, blind patriotism and what have you stereotypes. Whenever you listen to a liberal bash Bush it is always in connection with some targeted group or policy they dislike. (i.e. the military, religious right, death penalty, big business, imperialism, etc.)

When Bush has come and gone - few except the hardened leftists will loathe the man. One simply has to watch him kiss his wife (or observe his wife's looks at him as well) and it tells volumes about his character and, yes, this Presidency. Ironically, many free Iraqis and educated Afghani women will grow up and thank the man in their prayers quietly - unobserved and unnoted by the media.

That's the big difference between the Bush family and the Clinton family.
