You choose to believe in a world where France is a Saint and Tom chooses to believe in a world where the Republicans and the US are saints. Neither bears much resemblence to reality. Saying "British intelligence has evidence..." never was and never will be a lie. While the part quoted may be proven to be wrong it was not a lie if it was believed at the time.
