It is appropriate to debate whether current policies are the best ones. It is appropriate to document failures. It is not appropriate to hide or ignore sucesses while repeatedly mentioning failures to paint a false picture of overall failure.
It is not appropriate to declare failure after a few months of searching when years of searching failed at the same task. While the UN inspectors faced obstruction current searchers face the rather more intimidating prospect of hostile fire and a long period available for hiding weapons.
It is not appropriate to repeat meaningless and irrelevant death statistics over and over in a fashion to promote a feeling of failure when in fact those statistic indicate success in historical context.
In short a press is appropriate, a biased one is not.

Mark
