re: For Robert: Liberals and Conservatives

I've looked at that post several times over the last couple of days, and I'm still having trouble getting enough of a handle on it to respond. At first, you're ostensibly replying to a rather mundane post about the well-understood meanings of the adjectives "conservative" and "liberal", but still arguing about the political noun forms. I'll just stand by that original post.

As for the rest...well, man, Linday says she understands it, so maybe if she translated it, it would make more sense coming from somebody a bit more level-headed. Ahem...

Your vortex touched down on Earth at a few points, so I can make some comments about a few things. Perhaps the basic problem I'm having is that you're applying your personal "vortex science" as the Grand Unified Theory of Everything, from genetics to human behavior, and much of it (in that application) contradicts well-known tenets of specific sciences. Those I can address.

When a higher amplitude wave meets a lower amplitude wave and it collides due to some shared shape or frequency, the lower amplitude wave is molded and assumes much of the shape and pattern of the higher amplitude wave.

This is why people and animals have "natural" leaders - it is simply their thoughts and actions follow strengthened amplitude.

No. Consider the fact that there are many solitary species. If it was merely a matter of relative strength, then solitary animals like cats would also form bands led by the strongest personality. It takes more than dominance, it also requires an instinct for submissiveness. Among primates like ourselves it's an instinct to be a member of the tribe and to know our place in it. The young fit naturally into a subservient role ("betas") and instinctively defer to socially dominant senior members. Primates also have an instinct to advance and, if successful, someday assume the dominant ("alpha") role. It isn't that we're born one or the other, we have the social wiring to be able to assume either role as our position in the hierarchy changes; plus the desire to advance from a lower status to a higher status.

That's why suicide or life-threatening pursuits go against the grain of most people or animals.

You sure love to overcomplicate things. We have an instinct to survive because we have an instinct to survive. Life is biased toward continuing.

The HZ is unique in many aspects because it is one of the few places where very strong amplitude personalities and views coexist and are constantly reshaping eachother.

You're doing a grave disservice to people here if you think that it's all about strength of personality alone. You're totally discounting the quality of ideas, thinking, and expression. Do most of us revere Mary Anne because of her brute strength? Hardly. In our tribe, position in the hierarchy is determined by elegance of expression and clarity of thought. We acclaim Mary Anne as alpha because almost all of her posts embody both qualities in concise packets of great memetic power. She's achieved her status by carefully wielding a scalpel, not by bludgeoning everyone else into submission.
