(You thought I'd miss the obscure reference to Gaines?)
Well, yeah, it's a circus when so many people compete for one office. On the other hand, I never thought I'd get a chance to vote for Arianna, and I think that's kinda cool. I've always liked her, even before she saw the light and transcended conservatism. Sort of Zsa Zsa Gabor with a brain, if you know what I mean.
What I was thinking of was more along the lines of finer-grained representation in Congress, or "Parliament" as we'll have to call it. Not that it would be impossible to acommodate more people running for a single office, if we adopted some sort of elimination or multi-step process. Our present system is a bit oversimplified, I think; I don't know if that's to accommodate the two parties, or the parties sprang up because of the simplicity. It will take more complexity to accommodate finer-grained representation, but I think it's worth it to get out of the rut we're in.
