The Iraq war was a strategic move. I've posted the benefits many times and shall do so again:
1. Removes threat to Saudia Arabia, Aramco, Kuwait
2. Strengthens US military strategic operations immeasurably and supports Afghanistan as well.
3. Puts pressure on Palestine and Saudi Arabia to develop reforms
4. Puts an end to a horrible psychotic regime.
5. Acts as a target for Al Qaeda away from the US mainland where we can best smoke out the most fanatical killers.
6. Creates an entire new hands on relationship with the middle east and puts a monkey wrench in the works for those who would wish to perpetuate the 50 year old conflicts and endless killings
7. Put's pressure on Iran, Pakistan, Syria, Jordan and Turkey to clean up their acts.
8. Gives us a base of operations to directly monitor Iran nuclear developments and conduct fast response actions as may be necessary, refuel aircraft, etc.
9. Ends the religious persecution of the Kurds.
