Can you get Russia, China, North Korea, and all the rest to agree...
I'm not so sure about North Korea, but I wonder about China and Russia--if it could have the potential to help them avoid costly and messy war(s), maybe they'd buy in. We'll never know unless we talk to them about it.
Weapons sales add up to a BIG chunk of cash for the nations that do it, including billions of dollars coming to U.S. companies and workers.
Ok, here goes: maybe we as a species need to start recognizing that there are things more important than money and profit. There, I said it. Kind of a "big picture" statement, I know...probably too big. I have great concerns, though, that if we don't start thinking big--and yes, thinking globally--the future of humanity will be one of squabbles and slap-fights.
Beleive me, I know that political central planning has an abysmal track record, but I'm starting to have serious concerns about where that invisible hand is and what it's doing. At the very least, I think capitalism needs a leash on it because, unrestrained, it keeps crapping in the neighbor's yard.
Look at it this way: does your employer allow you to do whatever you want? Mine doesn't...we take direction from a central group, and although we are allowed and encouraged to be creative participants, we also have an overall direction in which to move. In business, it's considered a sound operating principle, isn't it? It's not an oppressive situation, and hell, I can't even vote my boss out.
Why can't we find some workable political analogue, nationally and internationally?
ps, thanks for the links.
