A few clarifications, and one opinion:
Really? What the hell are we paying all these taxes for satellite surveillance for? Hole on Tuesday, trench on Wednesday, filled on Friday. No scars? No clues? No photographs? I thought they were plentiful...or so I was told.
It is actually quite easy to slip temporary phenomena like digging a hole and burying something without a spy satellite catching it. The routines and orbits of many such satellites are widely known by other militarys, and can be worked around. Unless a particular area has been targeted for observation, a procedure that takes only a few days could be easily concealed. Add to that the fact that the Mother of All Duststorms hit Iraq during the march to Baghdad, which would have effectively concealed a lot of evidence of disturbed dirt and the like for later investigators.
Remember "our buddy Saddam", every bit as brutal but less brazen, who merrily exterminated Iranians? Who supported and supplied him? Who made him what he was? Who brushed it off for years, and even fed it weapons? Hint: it wasn't the Left.
Actually, most Iraqi weapons since the early 1970s seem to come from the Soviet Union. See here. The famous "WMD bacteria sale" was mostly inert materials for what were considered legitimate defensive purposes.
Being correct about a tragic outcome and then pointing that out is not equivalent to "rejoicing". That's like saying that people who work in emergency rooms "rejoice" when one more brain-dead helmetless motorcyclist is wheeled into the ER because his injury supports their research about head trauma. They know the consequences. They preach the consequences. When their words are disregarded, the anger they feel at the tragedy is not "rejoicing". It's grief and frustration. They know that another brain-dead helmetless rider will be in next week, and they can do nothing to stop it. This is the anger of the Left. "Rejoicing" isn't even in the picture. It feels to you as if the Left is gloating because the situation in Iraq shows that the Administration's projections look more and more simple-minded and unplanned as each week passes, and you dislike the embarrassment.
I think that you are largely right, but the attitude of some on the Left, including some in prominent positions of influence, resemble gloating and glee enough that it certainly fools me. I dare say most emergency room people don't go up to the houses of motorcycle helmet victims and march around with signs saying "The dummy should have had a helmet." The key here is being constructive.
