At the risk of putting words in Jody's mouth...

...I don't think that's what she meant. Jody has mentioned before she has close friends who are gay.

But even people who don't, who find their activities objectionable for religious reasons, still have an obligation to treat them with courtesy, respect, and fairness. But there are some people who just hate gays, not because of any religious reason, but just because they hate gays and want to hurt them in any way they can. Some people just love to hate, they don't need a reason. They just need a target.

When I was a kid, one of the worst insults you could get was to be called a "nigger-lover". It was fighting words, even though neither the insulted nor the insulter probably even knew any black folks. I was kind of proud of being called that (even though I didn't know any black folks either!). It was all the proof I needed that my antagonist was an asshole.

I make no effort to either seek out or avoid gay people. I've known several gay people myself. One is my friend, another used to be my rival and enemy, most were just casual acquaintances. The fact they were gay had nothing to do with it.
