I said I'd be fair, not yield to all sides.

Arnold practically confessed to and did not deny allegations that he forcefully groped women. I defined forceful sexual touch as assault and in the same ball park as rape. I'm not going to be a hypocrite.

As for the Bryant case: Who knows. Not that I am a forensic expert but: Some of what physical evidence has been released contradicts what the victim says happened. A lot of what has been released seems to me is equally consistent with passionate consensual sex as it is with rape. A lot of it seems to be consistent only with forced sex. Who knows. The Jury will get the whole story and will hopefully decide what happened there, and hopefully justice will be served. I certainly don't know enough and have not seen enough to be convinced one way or the other.

I also wouldn't want to be the out-of-town black guy on trial for raping the daughter of a small conservative town. That trial should have been moved far away from that town. I grew up in a small midwestern town... And there is a VERY strong tradition of supporting your own first, last and always. There is also a LOT of racism in small midwestern towns.

If it makes you feel any better, RobVG, I think a LOT of men go to jail on rape charges that are either mistaken or are flasified. A LOT of men in prison for rape charges are getting freed by DNA testing. That should give anyone pause.

A lot of Rape Convicts are in jail on simple eyewitness testimony. That is something to think about.

I am not going to run around pooh-poohing women who say they have been raped, or claiming that women get enough protection. Its true that about 1-out-of-four of my best female friends have admitted to me that they have been raped at least once in their lives. This confirms the oft-quoted statistic. I would bet 1-in-four men are not falsely accused of rape. Rape is a real problem in our society. Things have gotten better, but we still have a ways to go.
