This is your vert accurate quote of AS:
"Yes, it is true that I was on rowdy movie sets and I have done things that were not right, that I thought were playful but now I recognise that I have offended people. And those people that I have offended: I want to say I am deeply sorry about that and I apologise."
This is your statement in a previous post:
Arnold practically confessed to and did not deny allegations that he forcefully groped women. I defined forceful sexual touch as assault and in the same ball park as rape. I'm not going to be a hypocrite.
His quote and your statement do not quite jibe as long as he says he considered his offenses playful and not forceful. You would need to have been there or do more investigation.
If I had been a bully in grade school and I had given several classmates a wedgie, I might respond the same way if I were acused years later of knocking their teeth out. I might feel that the best way to deal with it is to just say I'm sorry rather than appear defensive and deal with each accusation on it's merit on the eve of my election as class president.
In another post you said:
"Tom, if someopne humiliated me, I would not be falling all over myself to talk about it in public when I probably don't have a solid legal case or witnesses, and would put my career at risk to boot, and I'm a pretty damn open sort of person. If that someone then runs for a position of high office, I would be thinking 2 things.
1) Like hell am I going to let that sort of person be my leader
2) Revenge is a dish best served cold."
This is a good point and it might even be true, particularly if the victims considered his offenses as a mild annoyance. I am troubled by the insistence that his offenses are virtually the equivalent of rape, yet the victims chose to wait until now. Many of the offended women were aspiring actresses and Hollywood pros, who aren't usually shrinking violets when it comes to publicity.
Oh, you say the charges aren't new, then why was there no outcry of criminality when they surfaced the first time. Maybe it just wasn't considered a big deal.
All I'm saying is that you would have to be there to judge his offenses. If they were as bad as some believe, keep the heat on him and make him accountable for each charge. If the charges fade to black, it is probably because they have no merit.
