All I see from this study is that it's harder to do the right thing by your kids if you're struggling to make ends meet than if you have fewer money worries.
I think you’re reading too much into the study than can be seen from its results. The study was not designed in a way that would discern the differences between parent’s behavior before and after the influx of cash. It could be that all the kids are too busy with their shiny new Playstations and Gameboys to get into trouble, for all the study tells us. Sure, a difference in parenting is a possible cause among many others.
Rush Limbaugh specifically said he was no hero, in that many words. You need the exact quote?
I trust you Tom. However there are a lot of commentators out there (Buchannon and Drudge come to mind) who do find something heroic in his story. Do you trust me, or shall I link and quote?
… instead of making up your own quotes
Whoah, Mister! What quote do you accuse me of manufacturing? The Kafka? Or did I present something in my post that you took as a made up quote?
And if you want to be precise about it, instead of making up your own quotes, Rush's views on drug use were that rich kids should get the exact same punishment as poor ones, something that doesn't happen much in real life.
Well sort of. The quote on this subject that we see all over the place these days says:
"And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up." Displaying characteristic conservative empathy, he dismissed data showing that blacks are punished more predictably and more severely than whites for similar narcotics offenses. Such statistics are meaningless, he said; all those studies prove is that "too many whites are getting away with drug use." According to him, the proper solution is not to treat addiction among all ethnic groups as a disease rather than a crime, but to arrest more white offenders -- and, of course, to "convict them and send them up the river, too."
The problem with this is that there is no fear that any such thing (arrests of white kids as much as blacks) happening. It is an empty suggestion. The uncaring dismissal of the admitted plight of the blacks is the part of this that pisses me off. Now that he is one of the “white kidsâ€, I wonder if he still feels this way?
I’ve also heard him quoted as saying: Jerry Garcia just another dead doper.
I’ll go along with “doperâ€. And Jerry is certainly “deadâ€. But “just anotherâ€?
My view is that drug use should not be a major crime at all. You got a problem with that
I don’t think that drug use is a major crime (except in some neighborhoods). And I have no problem with you holding any opinion you care to.
