I don't think Pak is actively anti-American. The gist I get from his posts over the past months is that he is a person who had a stable and "relatively" safe position under Saddam. Not a "collaborator" or a thug, but just someone who kept his head down and jumped when anyone said "frog." When the guy who says "frog" can dump you into a shredder, I dare say damn few of us would not have jumped even higher. In any case, he's not a Kurd or a Marsh Arab. He knows people who suffered abuse, but has probably not been seriously abused himself.
He deserves credit for blogging before the fall of Saddam, but the corollary to that is that he apparently felt himself safe enough to do so. Why?
I think he has gotten a bit full of himself lately, and no doubt being lauded by the Guardian in London accounts for a lot of that.
He could be a bit more reasonable, all things considered.
The old punch line: "He had a hat!"
