Mary Anne,
Prior to the start of the war, Ed insisted that that war was necessary because of Saddam's possession of WMD's. I frequently argued with him about the veracity of our intelligence on this and that I was skeptical of the Bush administration's claims.
Naturally, now that its apparent that Saddam didn't possess these weapons, Ed has to reinvent history, incuding his own motives for supporting the war. Its the only way he can keep his paradigm together.
Likewise, as the war began, its supporters here on this board continued to counsel patience - that Saddam did indeed have these weapons and it was only a matter of time before we found them. Some here offered the lame excuse that they were moved to Syria.
Naturally, as it has become ever clearer that our intelligence on this was utterly wrong and the case for war was deliberately exaggerated, the war's supporters have had to invent new explanations for engaging in a pre-emptive war without having clear and unequivocal international support. Instead of explaining away the deaths of hundreds of Americans to take away Saddam's mythical WMD's, they now say that the principle purpose of Americans dying is Iraq was to liberate counttry - again reinventing their own explanations for supporting Mr. Bush's reckless little war.
Regards,
Donald
